History & etymology:
The name Nora is a derivative of Honora. The latter was introduced to England and Ireland by the Norman settlers.
Honora is a variant of the Latin name Honoria, a feminine form of Honorius.
Alternatively, the name Nora may stem from Eleanor and its Old English form Aenor (from Old French: Aliénor).
Nora is similar to the Arabic name Noor (meaning light), too.
Considering the name’s history, there are many possible patron saints for Nora. However, very little is known about any of them. One of the possible patrons is St. Honorata, Italian nun who lived in the 4th century. She was kidnapped by a Germanic chief Odoacer who wanted to force her into marriage but she was freed by her brother, St. Epiphanus, the bishop of Pavia.
Her feats day is celebrated on 11th January.
