Sarah is a Biblical name of Abraham’s wife. She is known for giving birth to Abraham’s son, Isaac, when she was in her 90s. At first, her name was Sarai (meaning ‘contentious’) but God ordered Abraham to call her by a more respectable name: Sarah (meaning ‘lady’ or ‘princess’).
Genesis 17:15: And God said unto Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah'.
The name Sarah has been used in England since the protestant Reformation. At present, it is an international name whose popularity does not seem to diminish over time.
